May By The Bay

MTBR sponsors several annual gatherings. One of the biggest in Norcal is May By The Bay and it’s going on right now. Last weekend they had some rides at Coe Park and in the South Bay area, this weekend (and during the week) they are moving north, I’m planning on participating in 4 rides over the next few days, at Rockville Ride on Friday, Annadel Saturday, Boggs Mountain Sunday, and I will be leading the Oat Hill Mine trail ride on Memorial Day. If you are interested in participating you can catch the buzz at the MTBR Norcal Forum or there is a MBTB 8 page which was put up by Fast Eddy.

Long Delayed South Yuba Video

About a month ago I promised a video from our South Yuba Ride. Then I proceeded to dawdle and delay again and again plus tried to upload it to Google vidoes until finally I gave up on Google and posted it on YouTube. However the qualiy of the YouTube video is pretty weak so I went ahead and posted the original quicktime here as well.

Here is the original Higher Quality Quicktime video or but if you are bandwidth challenged or just too lazy to mess with quicktime, here is the YouTube version.

24 Hours of Adrenaline Recap

I am still amazed at the people who go out and are able to do the 24 hour events solo. Personally just being on a 5 man team was a huge effort for me.  An endurance race like this is more than just an effort of physical endurance,  you also have to deal with the effects of sleep deprivation,  and there are a lot of logistics which you don’t think about.  Food was one issue which I goofed up on.  My total times were improved slightly over last years but not as much as I felt they should have.

See you at 24 Hours of Adrenaline

Well I’m heading out first thing tomorrow for 24 hours of Adrenaline. It’s a five man team so it’s not a monstrous effort but I will definitely be pushing myself and racing against my last years best time of 57 minutes. I’m going to bring the helmet cam and get some footage which I’m sharing with Erich for a documentary on the race. Wish me luck.

The Kindness of Strangers

This is all amazing to me. When I was first contacted about this I had no idea the efforts this group would wind up going to for this. The guys from Believers on Mountain Bikes and offered to put up a cross in memory of Sylvia’s passing on the Porcupine Rim trail. I thought the idea was extremely kind I have been exchanging emails with a representative talking about the event for months. Well they finally did the ride on the 5th of May and it exceeded my expectations in every way. Here are some of the comments from of the event:

We had almost no mechanicals and only one wreck in the group of THIRTY riders that come down with me. There were more BOMB riders that came down that day, not sure the total though. A lot of people asked questions (just other riders and hikers on the trail) about what the cross was for too – everyone asked me to forward on their hearfelt sypmathies to your family.

So without any further comments here are the pictures from the ride:
