A little more information on how it all worked out.

We didn't want to place the cross and have a local land management official or trail advocate get bent out of shape so we worked the circuit at a few bike shops until we had some good contact names and numbers.

We finally got through to Russ at the local BLM office. He said the BLM would not normally have a problem with crosses on the trails, but for one big problem. He said that every time someone puts something like this up - an uncaring, bonehead "trail purist" will eventually come down the trail and yank it out of the ground and toss it aside.

We came to an agreement - that we'd place the cross and attach a note stating we had BLM permission and that the cross would be removed after the Memorial Ride. We placed the cross on the 2nd - made it a family hike day, the Memorial Ride was on the 5th and we removed it on the 6th.

I'll send photos - it was really an incredible day.

Sending pics of the Memorial Ride. It was an incredible day. Many commented how it was the best day they've ever had on a bike.

Hi,

I live in the SF Bay Area and will be going to the BOMB Gathering in Moab. I'm planning to attend the Memorial Ride and yes, anyone who wants to join the ride is more than welcome.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We'll be praying for you and your family.

God bless,

John Wright
